The Community approves a new regulation of tourist accommodation in campsites and motorhome areas.
The Governing Council, on the proposal of the Ministry of Presidency, Tourism, Culture and Sports, has approved the regulation of tourist accommodation in the modalities of campsites and areas of motorhomes, caravans, camper and similar in the Region of Murcia.
For example, the rule states that free camping may not be carried out by means of motorhomes, caravans, camper or similar, in order to avoid crowds, especially in natural areas. The text indicates the conditions that must be given to consider that these vehicles are parked and not camped.
The entry into force of this new standard, which responds to the demands of the sector, has taken into account the contributions of the Association of Campsites in the Region of Murcia and of entrepreneurs and professionals in this segment.
This new regulation is part of the process of renewal of the decrees regulating tourist activity undertaken by the regional executive with the aim of increasing the quality of the existing accommodation offer and facilitating the implementation of new infrastructures. Thus, in previous years the updated regulations were approved for hotels, hostels, apartments and houses for tourist use and rural houses.
There are currently 18 campsites in operation in the Region, totalling 14,731 places, and 29 caravan and similar areas, with a capacity for 667 places.
The decree approved on Thursday, October 27, 2022, regulates for the first time the areas of motorhomes, caravans, camper and the like, which come together in a single category. For campsites, a new star classification is introduced, establishing five possible levels.
It also includes glamping or 'glamorous camping', common terms for campsites of higher category.
As for the places where campsites and motorhome areas can be located, the rule provides that they can be installed in places where, in addition to urban regulation, the protection of nature, coasts, cultural heritage, public channels and floodability and other regulations.
Another novelty is the principle of operating unit, in that all the accommodation activity carried out in a campsite must be managed by the same company and, like the other types of accommodation, the tourist classification process may be carried out by the submission of a responsible declaration.
Similarly, the new standard will improve the accessibility levels of campsites and motorhome areas, forcing everyone to have itineraries, car parks, accesses, plots, toilets and other adapted units.
Campervanism and itinerant tourism is becoming a major social phenomenon throughout Europe. The Community has therefore updated this legislation, which forms part of a package of decrees regulating tourist accommodation in its various forms (hotels, tourist apartments, hostels, rural houses and holiday homes) which have been approved in the last five years as a development of the Law 12/2013 of Tourism of the Region of Murcia.
The new Decree is focused on achieving the quality and excellence of the tourist destination, also establishes the possibility that tourism camps offer their services according to a classification by green stars which will allow a clear identification of our accommodations both nationally and internationally.
